Healthy Breaks
Healthy Food and Drink at Knockevin
At Knockevin Special School, we are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and helping our pupils develop positive eating habits that support their health, wellbeing and learning. We provide healthy breakfast and break-time options each day, encourage regular access to water, and support pupils to develop independence through food preparation and cookery activities.
We recognise that every child is different. Our approach takes account of individual dietary requirements, allergies, medical needs and sensory preferences, ensuring that all pupils can access food safely and comfortably. We work closely with families and health professionals where specific dietary support is required.
As an Eco-School, we encourage pupils to bring a reusable water bottle each day where appropriate, helping them stay hydrated while reducing plastic waste. For safety reasons, medication must never be sent to school in food or drink and should only be administered in line with school procedures.
We also ask families to support our healthy eating approach when providing snacks and to be aware that nuts, coconut products, chewing gum and fizzy drinks are not permitted in school.
