 MOURNE Department

Mourne Department is a vibrant and nurturing part of Knockevin School, comprising four dynamic classes where pupils are supported to achieve their full potential and thrive. Our dedicated class teams foster a busy, engaging environment enriched by a wide range of experiences that go beyond the classroom.

Pupil learning is enhanced through regular visits from external visitors, immersive sensory days, and access to a variety of specialist facilities and programmes within the school. We are proud to offer the innovative new Flexibounce programme, which supports physical development and sensory regulation in a fun and structured way.

Each classroom in Mourne Department is thoughtfully designed to provide structure, promote independence, and support communication. We place a strong emphasis on developing lifeskills, helping pupils build confidence and autonomy in preparation for life beyond school.

Outdoor learning is a key feature of our approach, with pupils regularly engaging in Forest School activities that encourage exploration, resilience, and a connection with nature. These experiences are carefully planned to complement classroom learning and support holistic development.

Our department is deeply committed to the school’s rights respecting and inclusive ethos, ensuring every pupil feels valued, heard, and empowered. Through a personalised and pupil-centred approach, we aim to equip each young person with the skills, confidence, and experiences they need to flourish in their future lives.
